Montgomery Alabama Developer
Montgomery businessman Jim Wilson Jr., a noted real estate developer known for developing such properties as Montgomery Mall and Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, died Thursday of cancer. He was 71.
Wilson, starredat Football at Lanier High School and Tulane University in the early 1950s, achieved greater fame off the field for his financial contributions to his university, Montgomery’s Blue-Gray All Star Football Classic and for his creation of the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club.
Jim Wilson and Associates is now located in the EastChase commercial and retail development off Taylor Road, which Wilson originally envisioned in 1982, Bartlett said. In his 31 years as president and CEO of his development company, Wilson developed more than 100 projects in excess of 20 million square feet total, the company said.
Wilson had been suffering with cancer for several months. He was in the office Thursday when he began to feel ill, company officials said. He was admitted to Baptist Medical Center East and died a little after 8 p.m.
Visitation will be Saturday at the Wilson home from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
